Music

Our expert music teacher, Mr Edge teaches music across school. He is the Choral Director for the Diocese of Hallam and delivers the National Schools Singing Programme (NSSP).  The NSSP is a diocesan-wide scheme being run in Catholic primary schools in Hallam and other dioceses which delivers the National Curriculum for music through whole-class choral sessions and also establishes after-school choirs and singing groups which feed into parish Masses and liturgies. Children get the opportunity to work with a real musician on a weekly basis, and develop a repertoire of songs that they are able to perform.

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education will engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

Musical teaching and learning is not neat or linear. The strands of musical learning, presented within the lesson plans and the on-screen resources, are part of the learning spiral. Over time, children can both develop new musical skills and concepts, and re-visit established musical skills and concepts.
