Class 2

Welcome to Class 2!

 

Class Two is all set for another year of fun and learning. Please do look at the curriculum page so you know what topic your child is doing each half term.  Homework will be given out on a Friday and needs to be returned on Wednesday. Swimming will be happening on a Thursday, with French and ICT on a Wednesday afternoon.  Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school on Monday morning as we will need to fit in another PE lesson during the week on top of the swimming lesson. They will need swimming trunks, one piece, towel and goggles each Thursday. Parent reading will be on Friday mornings so please come along and share a book with your child. If you have any concerns come and chat to me or send a message via Dojo as the more we work together, the more your child will get out of the year.

Maths Mastery

At Saint Patrick's we are part of the maths mastery teaching alliance and an integral part of that is ongoing support from our school development lead Sarah Lambert. On the 14th of November, she came over to evaluate how the teaching and learning of maths mastery was going in our school. She was very positive about what she saw which made me very very proud indeed. The following is a quote from her explaining her findings during her visit :

"The children clearly love maths and are keen to share their mathematical thinking. They enjoy discussing the maths they are doing and use precise mathematical vocabulary when doing so. The children ask questions about their learning and are eager to be challenged."

08/01/18 Derren and Edward had a great time during their alternative curriculum hook day too. Lots of fun was had learning all about insects and disgusting facts. A bit of football was needed to relax after all the insect building.

08/01/2018 What an amazing start we have made to our new topic Playlist. Our hook day was awesome and everyone really enjoyed it. Some came dressed up as artists from this century and enjoyed sharing their fact files with us all. We had a wide range of artists appearing in Class Two today ! We wrote up fact files and shared them with our friends. After that we had a dance off and without a shadow of a doubt the boys were the winners, as they were dancing like no one was watching :) After lunch, we read the Sound Collector poem and discussed all of the sound words. We then wrote a class version and went onto write one all about our houses. Sorry to say Dads snoring featured quite heavily in the noises of home section. We ended our day by watching The Music for Youth Proms concert from the Royal Albert Hall so that the children could see what a large scale orchestral and music concert sounded and looked like. All in all I think the children had a really good day and it was lovely to see some pure joy as they danced their hearts out.

08/01/2018 What an amazing start we have made to our new topic Playlist. Our hook day was awesome and everyone really enjoyed it. Some came dressed up as artists from this century and enjoyed sharing their fact files with us all. We had a wide range of artists appearing in Class Two today ! We wrote up fact files and shared them with our friends. After that we had a dance off and without a shadow of a doubt the boys were the winners, as they were dancing like no one was watching :) After lunch, we read the Sound Collector poem and discussed all of the sound words. We were inspired to create our own tags and sketches of what our light graffiti would look like. There has been a lot of discussion in our class about the ideas of street artists and we loved that a child in Year 6 was so inspired by our topic that she painted two graffiti canvases for us. Thank you Grace and they are now central to our display.

We have been thinking a lot about how Philippe came up with the idea and how he would have felt. We are really enjoying our book. As you can see, we have the Leaning Tower of Pisa, The Brandenburg Gate, a New York Skyline ,Skyscraper, The Berlin Wall  and some houses already. The children have had a great time creating them and it really helps to create a fantastic learning environment within Class Two. I look forward to seeing what is going to come next :)  6

06/11/17: Today was a very special treat day for a very special group of children who celebrated a 'posh lunch' with me in the classroom. As their teacher, they have made me proud every single day since our new school year started as they are consistent in their approach to their work. As a group they support each other fully in talk tasks, challenge each other to do their best and help each other when they get stuck. So today was my way of saying thank you to them and rewarding their fantastic learning behaviour. We had fun setting the table and making it look special and different and it was lovely to sit and have a lovely chat over a shared lunch.

02/11/17 Today we became Phillipe Petit and with the use of drama we explored how our feelings changed when we were standing at different heights within our classroom. We were imagining being really high up and how we would feel. There was a mixture of fear, excitement, dizziness in the midst of being intrigued by why Petit liked heights so much. We practised our balance whilst on tables but of course pretending to be on a tight ropes throughout our drama session.
